  1. He missed out a vowel I think... Montago, Montenegro, though still unusual.

  2. Or perhaps Montague? Or because he 'won't go' anywhere? Trying to figure out how some of these names spring up is like asking some local Hongkie to explain why they like chowing down on instant noodles when they know it has little nutritional value and is full of MSG. Impossible.

Or for that matter, trying to figure out how some of these names spring up is like asking some local Hongkie to explain how they came up with their weird names!

  3. Have you asked any people with odd names about how they chose them?

  4. Please see 0223 HKSAR Name of the Day. So far, Mr Divine Fung is the only person with an acclaimed HKSAR Name of the Day who has visited this blog and kindly gave some feedback. It would be great if there were more!

In this case, Divine mentioned that it was his parents who chose his name.

  6. Not sure, didn't ask and he didn't say!

About asking people with odd names, perhaps I should try to talk with them about their label rather than just give my usual nod of recognition to yet another Hongkie with a novel name!?

  7. Yes, you should definitely ask them. Maybe also refer them to a good therapist if they have a really wacky one while you're at it.

Next time I'm over there I might ask them too.

  8. Before I approach such people here, I will have to have enough business cards to dish out (referrals, of course)!
