    Isn't this just an amalgamation of 2 Canto names, Kit + Man?

    Could be! Yes, this is probably an amalgamation. Those with "Man" in their names are likely to do this. However, if "Man" is not at the end, it is less likely to be used in the novel name (i.e. there may be a Kitman or Homan but there is probably no Mankit or Manho).
